Song 1: Karma Police by Radiohead
Song 2: Tighten Up by The Black Keys
Story: "Good Country People"
Character: Hulga/Joy

Explanation 1: In the story "Good Country People", Hulga is left in the barn by Pointer, blind and incapacitated. In this way, she receives her comeuppance, or karma for her actions. The song "Karma Police" by Radiohead, is a song about retribution for committing a crime against a group of people. In comparison to "Good Country People", Hulga is so prideful that she percieves Pointer as a simple country person, but when he handicaps her in the barn, she is just receiving karma for her actions.

Explanation 2: Hulga suffered a terrible accident which scarred and marked her forever. In the song "Tighten Up ", the lyricist Dan Auerbach says: "Take my badge but my heart remains/ Lovin' you, baby child/ Tighten up on your reigns/You're runnin' wild, runnin' wild" the badge that the mythical character Auerbach presents takes away his mythical badge, his identity. In "Good Country People", Pointer takes away Hulga's leg and glasses, which are a part of her identity, much like Auerbach's character that he presents in his song.

Manley Pointer
1.Use Somebody-Coldplay
I chose the song "Use Somebody" due to Manley trying to win his way into selling bibles and catching Hulga's attention .  He takes advantage of her and manipulates her into thinking he actually likes her. Also, he tries to act as if he is kind and an innocent country person but in the end all he does it use her. Manley put on a false image of himself to make Hulga comfortable when she was alone with him but all he wanted was for her prosthetic leg.
2.  Self Esteem-Offspring
I chose the song "Self Esteem" because throughout the song it talks about one person having no self esteem and not feeling good about themselves. Hulga had no self esteem but when she gets asked out by Manley it makes her feel better inside.  It also states that people use one another for negative things and you truly don't know who someone really is until you witness a bad interaction with them. Lastly, I found this song to relate to Manley because it expresses how someone used someone else for what they could offer and that's the same when it came to Hulga being able to offer Manley her leg and comfort to him.

Character: Emily

Songs: 1. Paradise by Coldplay. 2. Houstatlantavegas by Drake.

Explanation: Song 1: This song talks about a girl who felt she deserved everything, that everything should be just given to her. However, things didn't turn out this way, but she kept dreaming that they did. This would be Emily's theme song because Emily received her position in society from her father's influence in the community. Most of everything was given to her, like the fact she didn't have to pay taxes. Her perfect life changed disappeared with the death of her father. The title A Rose for Emily symbolizes how Emily thought her life was perfect but just as a rose, everyone has its thorns. Which means her life was, in reality less perfect, probably alot worse than she believed.

Song 2: This song is about a girl who is receiving a lot of love and respect in a place called houstatlantavegas. It talks about how she is stuck there and doesn't want to leave. Also, it discusses how she doesn't want to end up alone and struggles with relationships. This could also be Emily's theme song because of her inability to let go of the pass. For her houstatlantavegas is the past, the old ways of the South which she is stuck in and can't let go. Just as she cant let go of the past, she also can't let go of the one guy she could actually have a relationship with. Homer was probably going to leave so in order to stay with him she killed him because she couldn't let him go.

Mrs. Slade
Better Than You, The Friday Night Boys
This song suits Mrs. Slade for many reasons. One is because it talks about how someone is better than someone else. Mrs. Slade is always coming up with reasons as to why she is better than Mrs. Ansley at everything. There’s a line in the chorus that says “She’s just better than you”. This seems like something that Mrs. Slade would tell herself about Mrs. Ansley because she seems to be obsessed with being above her. The songs talks about competition similar to the one that Mrs. Slade has come up with by herself.

Selfish, This Providence
This song could serve as Mrs. Slade’s theme song because it talks about being a selfish person, which she is. She wrote Mrs. Ansley a letter signed by someone else telling Ansley to go meet Delphin. If her plan had worked Delphin wouldn’t have showed up and Ansley would have gotten Roman Fever. In the song it states “You might deny it but you’re tied to your desires, and you’re selfish, yeah you’re selfish just like everyone else”. This describes Mrs. Slade because one of her desires is to be better than Mrs. Ansley and she would do anything to prove that she is. This then makes her become a selfish person.

Maneater by hall and oates
In man eater and a "Rose for Emily" the main character is a dominant woman who does not let men rule her life.  Not only that but she also dominates the men in her life.  I chose the song man eater for Emily because it describes the relationships she has with the different men in her life.  The lyrics in the song describe her  very well because like how the song says "she's a man eater" that pertains to how Emily killed a man who was important to her.

Tick Tock by Ke$ha
I chose the song Tick Tock by Ke$ha for Emily because of her view on time. This song represents Emily well because of the influence that time has in both the song and Emily's life.  For Emily she is stuck in the past and although time is in fact moving she is does not move past the old ways like those of her fathers time.  Even though the song talks about time as if it is moving for Emily she is stuck in time.

The two theme songs that describe Hulga would be Creep by Radiohead and Apologize by OneRepublic. Creep refers to Hulga’s personality before she was fooled. Here are some sample lyrics of Creep “I’m a creep, Im a weirdo”. These lyrics in particular explain the fact that Hulga felt that she was so ugly, she needed the ugliest name to fit her appearance. “I want to have control, I want a perfect body”. Hulga was often described as a large woman who seduced and manipulated people because she could. Despite her unappealing appearance, she was very intelligent and she liked to use that intelligence to her advantage. On the outside she put out this non-chalant and prideful persona but inside she felt like she didn’t belong.
Hulga’s second theme song would pertain to her life after she was robbed. The songs meaning has to deal without a bad breakup. The lyrics to this song give an overview on how Hulga feels after she was fooled. Here are some sample lyrics of the song, “Im holding on your rope got me ten feet of the ground”. That verse relates to how manly Pointer tricked Hulga into climbing up a ladder into the upper barn, knowing she had an artificial leg. “And Im hearing what your saying but I just can’t make a sound”. That verse refers to how after Manly stole Hulga’s leg he explained to her how does does this for fun, and she was left speechless. “I loved you with a fire red, now its turning blue”. That verse refers to how Manly accepted her and seduced her aside from her flaws. At that point, Hulga was really starting to like him because she had never had anyone treat her like she was beautiful. Her astonishment and bliss soon turned into fraud and deceit.

Character: The Bible Salesman.

“You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid” by The Offspring.

“A thousand lies and a good disguise” is exactly what a conman carries with him when on the hunt for a new victim. The Bible Salesmen is the sort of person who uses and plays people to achieve his own goals, no matter what the cost-he shows a rather astounding lack of empathy almost comparable to the mentality of a sociopath. This song describes his character very accurately, as it speaks of liars, people who deceive and manipulate others to their own advantage. He’s a man of a million different masks, unlimited faces and facades to fool even the sharpest eye. “Clever alibies, lord of the lies,” the conman thinks he possesses a great deal of cunning in comparison to all of us mere mortals, and after he’s through with his target he boasts to no end, spitting on the face of an already broken person.

“House of Wolves” by My Chemical Romance

This song portrays a far simpler, more general way of looking at the Salesman-he is, quite plainly, “a bad, bad man.” The theme of the song is very much self-damnation in a way that’s rather wild and certainly not as morbid as one would expect-“Well I think I’m gonna burn in hell” is tied in with this rebellious, proud sort of feeling the chorus has. There is a vibe the lyrics give off that really reflects an aspect of his personality, specifically the defiant, greater-than-thou attitude he has. “I’ll say what I want to say-” the salesman, being a self-absorbed, proud person, likely thinks himself to be above the rules. And of course, this is a man who has “innocence for days…”or whenever it’s convenient for him.

King without a crown – Matisyahu
Matisyahu’s lyrics define Emily’s love and devotion to Homer. His words “…You’re like water for my soul when it gets thirsty, without you there’s no me…” describe Emily’s affection for Homer, and how he is a necessity in her life which she could not let run away. “…I'll stand on my own two feet, won't be brought down on one knee…” these verses exemplify Emily’s pride for her family and the high status she used to have before the Civil War. This also illustrates her independence after her father passed away. The line“…I give myself to you from the essence of my being…” displays Emily’s devotion to Homer and despite the fact he is homosexual she still felt an enormously strong relationship with him.
Forever Young – Jay-Z (feat. Mr. Hudson)
Mr. Hudson’s introduction to the song mainly portrays Emily’s failure to comprehend her fate, the verse “…Heaven can wait we’re only watching the skies…” shows this. “…Hoping for the best but expecting the worst…” also makes clear that when Emily had poisoned Homer, she understood her consequences but still did it for she felt a one way connection from her to Homer. “…Let us die young or let us live forever…” again describes her devotion to Homer. “…Forever young I wanna be
Forever young…” relates to how Emily is still stuck in per-civil war times, and is considered a fallen monument of the city of Jefferson.

If the character Emily from “A Rose For Emily” were to have a theme song two songs would be Wait For You by Elliott Yamin and Trapped In My Mind by Kid Cudi. The song “Wait For You” shows how Emily’s pride gets the best of her and how she is trying to hold onto her past. Part of the lyrics in the song say “So why does your pride make you run and hide?” this is saying how Emily does not let anybody get through to her, she only lets them see her as the girl who’s father kept her from seeing anybody or anything. Another part of the song says “Baby I will wait for you. If you think I’m fine it just ain’t true. I really need you in my life. No matter what I have to do I’ll wait for you” this is showing how Emily had her obsession with holding on to things that she could not keep anymore. When Emily fell in love with Homer, she ended up killing him because she couldn’t be in a relationship with him since he was gay. These lyrics show how she will do anything to keep him for herself, so that they could always be together.
The song Trapped In My Mind by Kid Cudi shows how Emily is stuck in the past and her mind plays tricks on her making her feel as though nothing in the world has ever changed. The lyrics “Well, I’m stuck in rewind though I’m looking forward.” Show how Emily is seeing everything around her but not noticing that the environment is not the same as it was in the past and she cannot grasp onto the idea that the South has changed. Another part of the song says “I’m sick and I’m ill, my mental got me” explaining how Emily does not think the same as everybody else, for example she bought rat poison to kill the man that she loved. The lyrics “ I don’t think I’ll ever get out” show how Emily will never get of the ways of the old South.

The Rolling Stones: Back Of My Hand: Good Country People
The song talks about a man who people are annoyed with so they want him to leave them alone. He comes so much that they know the guy like the back of his hand. This relates to the bible man going to bug people about buying bibles. He comes around and is always eying to sell bibles to random people and that is like thinking every corner you turn he is their. The same thing is said in the song that basically when you turn and you think your alone you always see the back of your hand.
Nickelback: Hangnail : A Rose For Emily
A Rose For Emily talks about a girl that is attracted to a guy that is not attracted to her. This makes an unconftrable situation because she wants to marry him really bad but he does not want to. The song compars to her because how she poisons him and then sleeps with his dead corpse. The song says is talking about someone talking about a position that nobody wants to budge on and it just get put into a deeper hole. Also it's talking about how it all for me. She was so self centered because she did nit respect his feeling and she went against what he wanted and then spooned with the body.

Hulga:
I Hate Everyone-Get Set Go
This would be a good theme song for Hulga because she is very cynical, especially towards the people around her. She also seems to make a deliberate effort to be rude and resentful to everyone. She acts very independently and tries to make it clear to everyone she interacts with that she wants nothing to do with them. Much like the lyrics in the song, she automatically has poor perceptions of people before she takes a chance to get to know anyone, causing her to be even more hateful. Hulga also views the people around her as very ignorant, similarly to the song, and puts herself above them in her mind because she earned a high education.

I Just Wanna Run- The Downtown Friction
Hulga has a strong urge to escape her life in a way, which is why this song would also be a suitable choice as a theme song for her. Hulga detests her mother, and most of the people that come through her life, and tries to come off as unappealing as unappealing as possible so that they leave her alone. The song is about escaping the people and circumstances in one's life. Hulga shows the same desire expressed in the song; she wants to leave her ignorant, narcissistic mother and wishes she could have led a life without being disabled. She wants to "run" away from the irritating environment she is surrounded by. Unfortunately, she literally has no real means of escape which drives her to become the resentful, unpleasant person she is.

I’m Looking Through You- The Beatles
This song represents Mrs. Ansley because it is about a person who sees somebody’s true personality that they thought they knew. It is like when Mrs. Slade starts barraging Mrs. Ansley with all of her pent up hatred towards her. Mrs. Ansley thought she knew Mrs. Slade very well and liked her but when she saw her true personality she immediately retaliated against her. The hostile relationship was subtle at first but then escalated into something much bigger.

What Your Doing- The Beatles
Mrs. Ansley is a good friend whereas Mrs. Slade is not which is why this song represents Mrs. Ansley’s relationship with Mrs. Slade. Mrs. Ansley had no idea that Mrs. Slade hated her so much and thought that they were good friends. Even though they both had secrets from each other, if they had kept them they would think that they loved each other and would start to love each other back. If Mrs. Slade hadn’t reminded them of the foul feelings that they had for each other, they could have gone on being normal friends but her envy overcame her and she didn’t think that she could live her life without getting these feelings off of her chest.

Theme Song- Emily
Muse -Time Is Running Out This is song has many similarities to Emily from A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner. The song says I’m Asphyxiated which means to die by breathing a noxious agent and this is very similar to when Emily bought arsenic to kill Homer. Also the songs say “You’re something beautiful” and this relates to Emily because when Emily was young she was beautiful. Also the songs says “I won’t let you bury it” and this is just like when Emily didn’t want everyone to bury her father’s body because refused to believe he was dead. In the 6th paragraph of the song it says “bound and restricted” and this is just like Emily because she locked herself in a room for forty two years.
Green Day-Boulevard of Broken Dreams This is song has many similarities to Emily from A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner. This song reminds me of Emily because Emily dream is to get married and she never does and the name of the song is Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Also the song says “I walk alone” in the chorus and this is just like Emily because she was a loner because she never had any friends or close family. In the fourth paragraph it said “Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me” this reminded me of Emily because she would be lonely till she found a husband.

Emily is a very prideful and arrogant character, and there are a countless number of songs that define her personality, but I chose “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” by Kanye West and “You’re So Vain” by Carly Simon. These songs illustrate Emily’s conceited behavior, and how she believed nobody was up to her standards.
The song “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” by Kanye West, who ironically is recognized for his egotistical actions, is widely known for its haughty lyrics that directly relate to the traits of Emily. “Excuse me? Was you saying something? Uh uh, you can’t tell me nothing.” In the song, West speaks on how he is not only superior to all, but also how he isn’t influenced by anyone other than himself. This is relevant to Emily because she is still in the past and too proud to move on. She isolates herself from society for several years and when in contact, isn’t easily persuaded.
“You’re so vain. You probably think this song is about you. You’re so vain. I’ll bet you think this song is about you. Don’t you? Don’t you?” The song “You’re so Vain” regards a very selfish and proud man who believes he is greater than the woman singing. This man is much like Emily, and how she deemed herself better than everyone due to her family name. Yet in reality, she had done nothing to prove herself better than others.
Emily was a woman that believed she could do no wrong, and these two songs illustrated how one thinks they are superior. Emily’s pride came from her family name and ability to not let go of her life in the past, and led her to think she was an elite member of the Jefferson society. Both songs demonstrate people who are blinded by arrogance, just as Emily was, and express an excessive amount of pride.

“Run The World (Girls)”
-Beyonce

Throughout the many discussions held about the short story “A Rose For Emily,” we, as a class have discovered Emily to be very manipulative. Emily contains a certain power to “control” the men in the town. Emily got what she wanted, whether it was to be lost in the memories of the past, respect, or Homer.

The opening lines of the song “Run The World (Girls)” by Beyonce, captures Emily’s personality at a whole. Readers see that Emily has the ability to control the men in the town. Over the course of the story, Emily maintains strong and sturdy front, just like any great ruler of the world should. The next lines “My persuasion can build a nation” and “endless power love can devour” describe Emily as she can easily manipulate the people in the town. Emily was well known respected in Jefferson and this respect is what she used to her advantage while slowly manipulating the men and women of Jefferson. The line “endless power love can devour” describes Emily because she was so deeply in love with Homer that she took his life so that he would never leave her. Emily had the power to love so intensely that it caused her to kill the one man that she adored almost as much as she adored her father.

“Come What May”
-Moulin Rouge

Emily has a background of trying to hold onto the past for as long as society will let her. In the case of her father, it was only a few days, but, for Homer, it was a lifetime. Homer was becoming one with the sheets. Emily, like so many people of the South, tried to hold onto the memories of the past. She kept Homer’s body so that he would be with her forever. But, as displayed in the quote on page 13, the past is always apart of us, never to be forgotten. “All the past is not a diminishing road, but, instead, a huge meadow which no winter ever quite touches.”

This song describes the love that Emily posses due to the fact that she knows Homer will never leave her side. The line “Everyday I love you more and more” describes Emily’s growing love for Homer. “And there’s no mountain too high nor river too wide...Storm clouds may gather and stars may collide but I love you until the end of time.” This line is used to show that no matter what happens or how many obstacles society and the people of Jefferson put in the way of Homer and Emily’s relationship, nothing will ever stand in the way of their “love.” The line “I will love you until my dying day” describes the love that Emily will have until her dying day.

Emily
Song: With Out You
Artist: David Guetta and Usher
Reason: The reason I chose this song for Emily is because she loved Homer very much and never wanted to let him go. This song is saying how he can’t do anything with out the girl he loves. He says how nothing will be the same with out you and that is how Emily feels about Homer and why she kills him and never lets him go.

Song: Please Don’t Go
Artist: Mike Posner
Reason: Now the reason I chose this song is because Mike is singing about how he doesn’t want the girl he is with to leave. The reason Emily kills Homer is because he wants to return back home but she won’t let him go. One of the refrain of the song is if I wake up tomorrow will you still be there. Emily is always thinking about if Homer and or when he will leave so she poisons so he will be with her forever.

Hulga from "Good Country People"

First Song: Getting Scared by Imogen Heap

This song suits Hulga because it talks about being fearful at the end. In Hulga's position, you have pride. You have strength and you are willing to overcome silly obstacles that anyone may throw at you. Then you meet your lover who betrays you and takes a part of you. You are left fearful and scared of what humanity can do to you. This song tells Hulga's story; from the prideful beginning to the painful end.

Second song: Pride by Seether

This song characterizes how mistreated Hulga was at the end of the story. She was seduced, then convinced, then left there with her pride stolen. Her fake leg was a part of her that he stole from her. Without that leg she feels shamed, forsaken, blind, and completely hated.

My character is Miss Emily from the short story 'A rose for Emily'
At the Bottom -Brand New
‘Now I think about you everyday I’m alone now in my bed’ Emily obviously has to think about Homer every day because his rotting corpse is laying in her bed, even though i think the following line also applies to her Homer is only there physically. ‘ We never are what we intend or invent’ This certainly applies to Emily, she didn’t go into meeting Homer with the intentions of killing him. ‘Think something dark’s living down in my heart‘ Emily has a terrible mixture of romance and attachment, being emotionally and mentally unstable causes her mind to do extremely ‘dark‘ things (killing Homer keeping his corpse) maybe not even with the intent of harming anyone. ‘ And we spoke about the Father,Son, and the Holy Ghost And which psalms we had learned the most And then we all turned to dirt and dust’ Represents Emily’s respect she had from the people in her town ,her old fashion morals, But deteriorated with her mental health along with Homers dead body.
I’m not sorry- Morrissey
‘And I’m not sorry for the things I’ve done And I’m not looking for just anyone’ Emily is so caught up and mentally ill she doesn’t realize what she did is extremely disturbing and wrong, simply put she’s not sorry, she is attached to Homer this is why she keeps his body. “I’m slipping below the water line’ in all of the time we hear about Emily in the story this applies to her, she is loosing control of her own mind using the line ‘I’m slipping below the water line’ as a metaphor for her sanity. ‘The woman of my dreams, she, she never came along The woman of my dreams, well, there never was one’ I think Homer himself was the actual person Emily obsessed over it is who she made him out to be, who she built up in her head in the end who she was obsessing over was made up in her head.

Hulga from Good Country People
Song: “Jar of Hearts” by Christina Perri
Hulga is not the most cheerful person on earth, and in this song, neither is Christina Perri. Perri sings about someone who seems to be a sort of serial heartbreaker, who has stolen the hearts of many girls, including her. The line “And who do you think you are/Running around leaving scars/collecting your jar of hearts/tearing love apart” can be sung by Hulga after being completely conned by Manley into thinking he loved her, when really he was doing what he had done to so many others: tricked them into trusting him enough to steal something they held dear, like Hulga’s wooden leg or another woman’s glass eye. The song also has a line where Perri wishes she had missed the first time she had kissed this man since he broke all of his promises, a similar feeling of betrayal Hulga would have after Manley had sweet-talked her with words like “Don’t you think some people was meant to meet on account of what all they got in common and all?”, (O’Connor, 32) referring to their similar heart issues that left them with a short life span. Like Perri, Hulga was cheated by a man she thought loved her and that she had at least partially loved back, but now she is angry and depressed that he has conned her to steal something so important to her, which could be referenced in the song by the line “I’ve learned to live, half alive/And now you want me one more time”. She has already been handicapped for most of her life, yet Manley is going to come and steal Hulga’s leg and make her suffer more.

Song: “Heartbreaker” by Pink
In this song, Pink is doubtful about a man who seems to love her (“Are you lifting me up to heaven, just to drop me down the line”), much like how Hulga felt about Manley after first meeting. This similarity is strengthened when Pink sings “And you tell me that I’m Beautiful/but that could be a lie” and “Are you my greatest love/or disappointment in my life?” After Hulga first spoke with Manley in front of the gate, she had her doubts about his exuberance and open love towards her, wondering why he called her beautiful and was attracted to her when she had been intentionally rude to him. However, she is still slightly pulled toward him, like Pink is toward her man in the song: “I pray to God you’re not a heartbreaker/this time around I won’t survive/’cause if im falling for a heartbreaker/and everything is just a lie/I won’t be leaving here alive/I might as well lay down and die, oh/I won’t be leaving here alive”. Hulga has a feeling of suspicion about Manley, especially when they meet and he is obsessed with her leg. When it turns out he is a con artist and steals her leg, she is left without her most prized and important possession, and missing a leg she is basically half-dead, much like how Pink would be if the man she loves is a heartbreaker and leaves her with a broken heart.

Character: Emily (Rose for Emily)
Songs: Someone Like You- Adele
All Along- Kid Cudi

Someone Like You:

I chose this song to represent Emily’s relationship with Homer. The lyrics express the feeling Emily had when she got suspicious that he was going to leave her. So for her “It wasn’t over”, as was said in the song. The song talks about “Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead.” Emily felt the same way about Homer. She knew it wasn’t going to last between the both of them, so she made it hurt instead by taking his life. So that she would always “have him”, in her life.

All Along:

I chose this song to represent Emily’s loneliness after her loss of her father and Homer. The lyrics express the constant mood changes that Emily experiences over a long period of time in her life,” when the days change, so does my attitude”. The song also relates to Emily because it goes on to talk about,” all along, all along, I guess I’m meant to be alone, out there on my own.” Emily feels as though she’s extremely lost and lonely without her father. After she finds out that Homer will never want to get married to her, she realizes that she is “meant to be alone” as the song says.

Character: Emily Grierson
Song 1: I Get Lonely Too by Drake
Song 2: Heartless by Kanye West

This first song called "I Get Lonely Too" talks about how someone is hopelessly waiting for another person to be all alone with them. In the story "A Rose For Emily", Emily was devastated and alone after her father's death. She needed somebody to comfort her so that she wouldn't feel lonely. In the song it says "Waited on you for so long, too many days since January, I'm still sitting here alone". These lyrics represent Emily because with her feeling lonely she isolated herself for a long time until someone came into her life.

This second song called "Heartless" talks about how a woman treats her man wrong by being spiteful towards him. Emily and Homer were a couple for a very long time. She loved him very much and felt she could not do without him. Emily thought the two of them were doing well together. When feels she might lose him she secretively poisons him. In the lyrics it says "In the night I hear 'em talk coldest story ever told, Somewhere far along this road he lost his soul, to a woman so heartless. This explains how Homer died because Emily turned into a very cruel malicious person. She was so cruel that she would kill someone she loves. Also in the song it says "I mean after all things we've been through, I mean after all the things we got into". This represents how Homer might wonder why Emily would kill him after they had been through so many things together.

A rose for Emily
Character : Emily

1.
The zombies -  a rose for Emily.
The lyrics that "no one bring rose for Emily" and" but no rose for Emily."show the loneliness of Emily. And "the lovers come and go" shows her situation that her father and Homer leaved her. Also in this song, there is the lyric that says the pride is all she has to protect the pain. Everyone leaved Emily, and now she has only pride. It is exactly same situation with Emily. This song's title is same with book's and the situation is similar. I think this band tried to show the story as a song. This song shows the Emily's fear, pain and sadness after she lost her lovers.
2.
Too hard to say good bye. - Westlife
This song's lyrics show the entire story. The first song shows the Emily's pain because of death of her father and Homer. But this song  also shows the situation when Emily met Homer.  "You were all I  can see". This lyric shows Emily's love. But after that, there is lyric that I could face darkest side, and fight the tears inside. These tried to express the Emily's pain and fear after lovers are gone. And my favorite lyrics in this song is "There will come a day.I'll have to walk alone. And I'll have to make it on my own." These lyrics are really sad and come to my heart. I feel this feeling little bit now because my parents are so far from me now,for a long time. Lastly, but I can't turn this page or hold back the time. I also like this lyric. She might really want to go back but she can't. I think it makes her to keep the dead body in the house. She also can felt loneliness but she also regret the past.
